Port-a-Potty Training

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take your child in a port-a-potty while potty training? Well, you, being the super smart person that you are, are probably thinking, "No, of course not. Who would ever even consider taking their child to a place where there are only port-a-potties while they are potty training?" Not me. No way. Okay, well maybe I did and it totally backfired on me.

My family likes to tailgate for college football games and because we live in a college town, it's a bit of a Saturday ritual—one that I was avoiding for weeks because of potty training. My mother convinced me that it would be fine and that my daughter could probably make it to game time without having to use the port-a-potty. Well, mothers aren’t always right and she had to use the bathroom almost as soon as we arrived on site.

I immediately started sweating and cursing under my breath. My daughter and I made the long trek to the port-a-potties with a seat cover in hand. Luckily there was no line and I couldn't believe that our potty wasn't actually that bad! I covered the seat, plopped her on the potty, reassuring her that she wouldn't fall in and she actually peed right away! Hallelujah! "Is this a house, mommy? This potty is a house." Oh yeah, some cute house.

Later, after the game, I tried to get her to go to the bathroom in the nice stadium restroom and all she wanted to do was "go potty in the house outside." Seriously, child? You actually WANT to go back to the smelly port-a-potties? So, you know what I did? I made my mom take her.

So if you really can't avoid taking your child to a port-a-potty, I would highly recommend stocking up on hand sanitizer, because I promise you, your child is going to touch stuff. Unspeakable stuff.
